Depeche Mode has not played the Barras in Glasgow since 1984, before their massive global success, but they returned last week as part of the BBC’s 6 Music Festival.

Fresh from their Scottish gig and in the wake of Brexit, they are getting political and planning a tour.

Their new album Spirit features a track called ‘Where’s the Revolution’.

Keyboard player Andy Fletcher said: “Even I when I first heard the song was going ‘Oh this is a bit heavy?’ And then of course Trump becomes President and Brexit and the National Front in France and Syria, you know.

“And then you start, and I said to Martin the other day ‘You really were on the right track’.’

“We don’t feel music can change things really but just to make people think a bit, you know, look around the world and see what’s going on.”

Depeche Mode will be taking their new political music on a European tour from the beginning of May.
