Mums step forward to organise Gala

A new group of local mums have stepped forward to take over the running of the Dalgety Bay and Hillend Gala after the 2016 Gala committee stepped down and appealed for new people to come forward.

The group of 14 mums, some of whom remember the Gala from their childhood days, decided to take up the challenge when they realised the Gala was at risk of coming to an end.

Already the 2017 Gala committee is up and running and working hard on developing a number of ideas and initiatives for next year’s Gala including finalising this year’s theme which is Pirates and Princesses.

Zara Napier, joint-chair of the Gala committee, said: “We are passionate about keeping the Gala alive in Dalgety Bay and are hoping the local community will get behind us and support us as it’s a huge project but one that we are all excited about.

“The Gala is traditionally a great day out for the whole family featuring attractions such as fancy dress competitions and the traditional procession which we hope to bring back with a bang. This year we really want to get back into the heart of the community helping local businesses be a part of this day and ensuring it’s a brilliant day for all the kids.”

The committee is currently working on a calendar of events for the year ahead for families to enjoy and participate in. To kick things off, the team will be hosting a quiz night in Louie Browns on Friday 18th November at 8pm. It promises to be a fun night with prizes and a raffle, with all proceeds going to the Gala.

The Gala will take place on Saturday 10th June, kicking off with the traditional procession. For all the latest news please follow  on Facebook at Dalgety Bay and Hillend Gala.

The committee is still looking for more volunteers to join up, Dads, Mums, Grandparents, Friends, all welcome, if you are interested or have an idea for a fundraiser or something you’d like to share, please get in touch.
