Firefighters from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) were dealing with a major scrubland and forestry fire near Shielknowes Farm on the A803 in Slamannan which was reported around 12:15 on the afternoon of Saturday, 25 May 2013.
A fire crew from Slamannan Community Fire Station was initially dispatched to the incident following a report of scrubland on fire, however additional resources were immediately requested due to the extent of the fire, which assisted by strong winds had spread to an area of forestry.
Crews from Cumbernauld, Falkirk, Larbert and Denny Community Fire Stations (six in total) along with a water carrier from Larbert and an All-Terrain Vehicle from Dunblane Community Fire Stations attended to fight the blaze.
Group Manager Martin Brandrick, in charge of the incident said: “Around 40 firefighters are working in extremely arduous conditions in their attempt to bring this blaze, involving an area of approximately 800m x 300m under control using water jets and grass beaters’.
The fire service it had anticipated that the incident would be protracted and “resource intense”.
